Sample Scope of Work

This is a GREEN remodeling sample scope of work for replacing carpeting with bamboo flooring. This is the main part of the invitation to bid for contractors you have vetted, trust. and find acceptable to work the project.

This project is GREEN remodeling since you are installing a well-advertised GREEN product and recycling the existing carpet. Your research of the bamboo flooring shows the installation cost is within your budget and you have decided on the manufacturer, product number, color and the flooring finish.

Now you need to describe all the various items you want the contractor to complete for the work to be acceptable for you and your family. This includes the five "W" - who, what, why, when and where.

Scope of Work – Necessary Items

Qualified contractors need only tools, information and material to successfully compete a construction project. There are several necessary items the homeowner must address in the scope of work for the contractors bidding the project to not overprice:

·         Site must have all the obstacles, such as furniture, removed for the jobsite pre-bid preview.

·         Work the contractor is not expected to do will be accomplished to assure the contractors will not have to negotiate an additional charge.

·         Show access to the necessary utilities as the standard electric outlets, water, toilet, trash cans for construction debris and where to park.

Progress of Work

This scope or work may be in the same sequence as you would plan to do the installation yourself:

• Remove existing carpet from the living room, dining room and family room.

• Recycle all carpet material in a manner acceptable to the homeowner and furnish a receipt with the name of the company accepting the carpet.

• Remove all carpet related materials including any quarter round and baseboard necessary.

• Furnish bamboo flooring number ______, color ________ as manufactured by _________.

• Install this flooring in the living room, dining room and family room per manufacturer’s directions in a professional and workmanlike manner with the minimum waste. All waste is to be recycled.

• Leave one bundle of loose flooring for homeowner’s future use.

• Reinstall/replace any baseboard removed.

• Install quarter round to match (as close as possible) the color of the new flooring.

• Finish coat will be low VOC per manufacturer’s directions. Should the application of the finish coat be dependent on weather conditions, delay this final step until the first available day that conditions allow per local TV channel ____ weather report.
